It is no fun to plan a night around a place and find the door locked. This page lists St. Pete restaurants and bars that have closed, with the date for each one.
We checked every one on 6 October 2026. If a place is on this list, do not trust its website, its map pin or an old "best of" article.
Closed St. Pete restaurants whose websites still look open
This is the part that sends people to an empty building. These four are closed. Their own websites say nothing about it.
| Restaurant | Closed | What its website still says |
|---|---|---|
| Datz, 180 Central Ave | October 2025 | Still shows Order Now, Book A Table and gift cards, with the Central Avenue address and a 2026 date in the footer |
| Squeeze Juice Works, 675 30th Ave N | 20 January 2025 | Still says "Two St. Pete, FL locations" and "Order online", with the address and phone |
| Baba, 2701 Central Ave | 3 July 2026 | Still says "Call for Reservations". A new restaurant, Kaixo, is in the room now |
| Munch's, 3920 6th St S | 30 December 2022 | Still says "Come visit us", and the site now has gambling spam inside it |
Datz is the big one. It was the last Datz anywhere, and a year after it closed the site still reads like a busy restaurant.
Two closed places did it right. Golden Dinosaurs in Gulfport wrote "Permanently Closed as of 1/19/2025" in bold on its own homepage. The Thunderbird on Treasure Island says its beach bar is "Coming Soon". That is all it takes.
Restaurants the 2024 hurricanes closed for good
Hurricane Helene hit on 26 September 2024. Hurricane Milton followed on 9 October. The beach towns and Gulfport took the worst of it.
Each of these went dark on the day of the storm. Some owners did not say it was permanent until much later, so the table shows both dates.
| Restaurant | Dark since | Called permanent | What happened |
|---|---|---|---|
| Woody's Waterfront, St. Pete Beach | 26 Sep 2024 | January 2025 | More than five feet of water came in. After more than 35 years, the owners chose to sell the land |
| P.J.'s Oyster Bar, St. Pete Beach | 26 Sep 2024 | 18 January 2025 | The lease ended after the storms, 18 years in |
| Golden Dinosaurs Vegan Deli, Gulfport | Not reported | 19 January 2025 | The owners called the two hurricanes "the final nail in the coffin" |
| Tuttorosso Pizzeria, St. Pete Beach | 2024 storms | 1 June 2026 | Storm damage and the cost of reopening |
| GulfPerk Coffee Bar, Gulfport | 26 Sep 2024 | 9 July 2026 | The owner said the plan was always to reopen, and it did not work out |
| Ikki Woo Woo's Tiki Hut, Treasure Island | October 2024 | Being rebuilt | The Thunderbird resort is being torn down and rebuilt. The bar is promised back |
Two more are dark and nobody has said why. The Tiki Bar and Grill on the Gulfport waterfront and Willy's Burgers and Booze on Corey Avenue have both been shut since Helene. We found no closing notice and no reopening notice for either one. We are not calling them gone, and we would not plan a night around them.
Downtown and Central Avenue closures were about money, not water
It would be easy to blame the storms for everything. In the city itself, the reasons owners gave were rent, leases and costs.

| TapHouse 61 | March 2026 | Grand Central | Closed after nearly nine years. No reason confirmed |
| Red Mesa Cantina | 2 June 2026 | Downtown | Closed one day after its parent company filed for bankruptcy protection |
| Lorene's Fish House | May 2026 | The Deuces | The owner retired after 32 years |
| Good Intentions | Summer 2026 | Grand Central | The owners said staying open no longer added up |
| Baba and Barbouni | 3 July 2026 | Grand Central | Closed after seven years |
| Brutique | July 2026 | Downtown | Personal reasons |
| Thirsty First | July 2026 | Downtown | No reason confirmed |
| Rumba Island Bar & Grill | July 2026 | 4th Street North | No reason confirmed. The Clearwater one is still open |

| Overflow Brewing | 15 August 2026 | St. Petersburg | No reason confirmed |

What opened where a St. Pete favorite closed
- Nah Dogs is the vegan hot dog shop from the people who ran Good Intentions.
- Green Turtle Brewery took over the old Cycle Brewing taproom at 534 Central Ave.
- Forbici Modern Italian opened in June 2026 in the space Sea Salt left.
- LOVE22 opened in June 2026 in the building where Lorene's Fish House cooked for 32 years.
- Tchotchke is the diner in the room that was Munch's.
Eight closed St. Pete restaurants whose web addresses were taken over
When a restaurant closes and lets its web address lapse, someone else can buy it. Eight closed places here now send visitors to gambling, ad or for-sale pages. One was taken about three months after the restaurant closed.
That is why we never link to a closed restaurant's old website from this page.
Sources: local reporting from the Tampa Bay Times, Creative Loafing Tampa Bay and St. Pete Catalyst. We also used St. Pete Rising, I Love the Burg and The Gabber, plus each restaurant's own website read on 6 October 2026. Where no source gave a reason, we say so. National chains are left out. If we have one wrong, tell us.
